Of our 6,5 hectares of vineyard, 3,5 hectares are Pinot Meunier, 2 are Pinot Noir and 1 is Chardonnay. The vines are 40 years old and draw their vitality from a clay and limestone soil.

Here, with hardwood forests on one side of the river Marne and languorous vines covering the hillsides on the other, is where champagne begins. It would have been easy for us to follow tradition. But for Jérôme Bourgeois, the easy life is not a life worth living.

Born in 1977, Jérôme is the fourth generation of a champagne-growing family on his father’s side. And while tradition is in his blood, so is the urge to go beyond it. With Spanish ancestry on his mother’s side, Jérôme has always been compelled to pursue a different path to his contemporaries.

Jérôme's wife, Charlotte, joined the business in 2016 and today plays a critical role overseeing the Champagne Bourgeois-Diaz brand while helping to make sure the champagnes taste the way they should.

You could say our wines have a different blood. No pesticides, no chemical fertilizers, no violence – the vines are not just tended, they are loved. Over the years, they have recovered their essential nature. And how we work on the land, is how we work in the cellar. We use a traditional press because, instead of extracting the juice of the grapes, it draws it out. More effort, more reward. And that’s how we like it.
